Our Nutrition & Dietetics Department is incharge of planning different diets and meals for our hospitalized patients according to their medical indications. The team is formed by professionals that are experts in their areas and their work is based on regulations, quality standards, and food safety in Panamá.

The planniation, coordination, and quality of the products we use in our kitchens are guaranteed for our patients,
their family and their guests.

At The Panama Clinic we are convinced that nutrition is key for good health and for the patient’s recovery, meaning that our first goal is to provide a suitable and high quality alimentation.

Details of our service:

  • All of our hospitalized patients are visited for a nutritional assessment during their first twelve (12) hours with us.
  • The doctor and the nutritionist prescribe a diet according to the diagnosis and nutritional assessment of each patient.
  • A menu with different options is daily offered based on the diet and specific food restrictions.
  • We present information about the menu and the service price for your guests.
  • We will arrange your guests' order if you want so.
  • We have available Kosher meals.
  • If you would like to warm up your meal, we can contact the nursing staff through our calling system.

Basic Diet:

Includes all the meals in the menu without any restriction. This is given to patients with no gastrointestinal symptom and/or has gotten better. 

Low Fat Diet:

Includes a limited amount of saturated fat and cholesterol. Must limit the intake of egg, processed meat, red meat, and meals prepared with oil.

Low Fat Diet:

Low Sodium Diet:

Includes a salt substitute and other low sodium meals such as boths, soups, salted cookies, meats and other starters. Must not consume processed meat, packed and canned food, and processed meals.

Soft Food Diet:

Previous diet to the regular one. Must not intake raw food, citrus, or high fiber food. This is recommended for postoperative patients that are taking medicines. The soft food diet allows the patient to feed safely and will not eat anything that can alter his/her medications causing diarrhea. Soft and well cooked meals are recommended. Food to avoid: fried or raw food, raw salads (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion), citric fruits (pineapple, orange, strawberries, grapes, green apple, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, kiwi) and whole grains (wholemeal).

Porridge Diet:

Includes solid foods that are crushed and mixed with liquids for a purée texture. Cereals for breakfast and snacks are allowed as well as creams and purées with liquefied protein for the main dish and fruit porridge for dessert.

Diabetic Diet:

Includes a controlled quantity of carbs and sugar in meals. Research shows that sugar should not be out of the limit but it can be included in small portions in the diet.

Light Liquids Diet:

The light liquids diet is often taken by preoperative or postoperative patients. Effective to avoid digestive disorders in patients with chewing or gastrointestinal problems. This diet is based on the strict intake of light liquid substances during a specific period of time. Substances such as broths, apple juice, gelatine, and others.

Complete Liquids Diet:

Progressive diet between light liquids and solid meals. Avoids digestive disorders in patients with chewing or gastrointestinal problems. Examples: soup, cream, oatmeal, smoothie, milk, coffee, tea, and others.

NPO (Nothing by mouth):

This diet is used when the patient is not allowed to eat any liquid or solid meals for a specific period of time. Is often prescribed hours before and after the surgery or traumatic occurrences.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We offer a balanced diet that is indicated by the doctor. We are NOT responsible for the entry and intake of not prescribed meals. This can impact the patient’s health condition.

Room Service for guests

Family and guests can request our service and enjoy the room service menu. This menu is based on the Panama Food Guides that fit all normal and therapeutic diets. Guests and visitors can also enjoy our variety of restaurants in Pacific Center. 

Refreshments

We offer coffee and tea stations with snacks in selected areas of the hospital such as the Laboratory, Blood Bank, Emergency and waiting rooms. This stations are constantly being moved around the Hospital and in disposition for all of our guests.
